Whew. What a task. Although mindless, very tedious work. Just to catch you up, Rage Against The Haze is a youth powered organization that focuses on keeping teens tobacco-free the same way the diseases spread; through word of mouth.

It ain't over till' its over.

As quickly as I fell in love with One Minute News, was as quickly as we had to part our separate ways.

I got laid off today along with all a large chunk of the crew I grew accustomed to laughing and learning with everyday. The funny thing is; I honestly thought if this were to ever happen, it would be because I broke a camera or something dramatic and over the top, but unfortunately this had to happen for a reason that is above all our control.

I always assumed after getting laid off I would be super pissed, pouty or sad but I’m not because I’m not leaving One Minute News empty handed. Without this opportunity I would have never found a little piece of myself; my love for editing. So, I’m sending a little bit of that love to each and everyone of the people at One Minute News on this day. And turning this crummy situation into yet another time to grow and learn one last time from these awesome people.

One Minute News was a great experience and this is definitely not the end of them. Or me. So stay tuned…

I just love going to the movies, munching on some buttery...

I just love going to the movies, munching on some buttery popcorn, or my all time favorite movie snack, Twizzlers and having some mindless thought. However it really revs my engine when I go with someone and they find it necessary to talk and ask questions the whole time. Or worse, text non stop. It makes that awful clicking noise and lights up and is just down right distracting. I take my movie experiences very seriously in case you couldn’t tell. Good for Alamo Drafthouse for making this ad. I think it’s genius, short, funny and to the point. Plus, typography is really cool.

I have mixed feelings about the way this guy from Scotland...

I have mixed feelings about the way this guy from Scotland educated people about this issue in Syria. I’m all about spreading the word for human rights. My passion for this comes from Love146. I try and spread the word about this amazing organization striving to help abolish human trafficking every chance I get. I think that this guy would have got just as much attention if he had been honest all along instead of creating a fake person to prove a point. People feed off other peoples passion. I truly believe that passion is a contagious feeling. So I guess I have mixed feelings about if what this guy did is morally justifiable. He lied for a good reason, but does that make it right? What’s your take on this story?

The power of a story.

The power of a story.:
All you have to do it ask…

The weekend atmosphere.

Normally I get into work around 9am during the weekdays and see Michael and Yasmin. They look my way as I pass, flash me a grin and a “Morning Logan” and on they go with their business. By then they have been there for hours along with eight other OMN crew members so things are always buzzing and people are everywhere.

I worked my first weekend shift this past Saturday and the atmosphere was a total 360 from what I’m used to. Charlie, Jimmy, Elyse and Gary greeted me. Still with smiles of course, but what was so different was there was only those four in the whole office. And boy, was it quiet. I was able to do all the work I do in a normal weekday in half the time on Saturday. Slowly, but surely new faces walked in and by 1pm more people filled the office and fun was in the air. Gary was playing some oldies tunes in the background and everything was just so laid back.

Speaking of Gary, he’s the weekend producer and a very interesting guy. He gave me a little lesson about the editing bay, which of course I loved! He told me the importance of making the visuals match what the anchors are talking about because the second you make the viewer “think” is when you loose them. Gary likes to take his time with the editing aspect of the production. During the week there are so many upcoming news stories that being fast is key, but Gary made it clear that editing the piece and taking a little extra time is what makes the news the anchors deliver entertaining to watch. Gary really knew what he was talking about and I could tell he really took pride in his job. It was interesting to see how differently Gary and Aaron produce the show. What I thought was going to be a VERY slow day at the office turned out being one of the most interesting days here!

You are cordially invited to celebrate the end of our marriage!...

You are cordially invited to celebrate the end of our marriage! I love this picture of the anchors. Paul Mehaffey did a great job bringing out their personalities:

Vanessa, she’ll tell you what she’s thinking in a heart beat.

Scott, I bet you five bucks he was really screaming. You can hear him coming from a mile away.

Yasmin, she’s serious about news but has a playful side you wouldn’t expect. Not to mention her hair is to die for.

Elyse, I think I’ve seen her make this face when she sees there’s an Entertainment segment coming her way. It’s not her favorite topic to cover.

Jennifer, she did a segment on doing the “duck face” so it’s quite ironic she’s making one here. Total sweetheart by the way.

This is Mack’s best, “I’m the boss, fear me” expression. Don’t let it fool you though, he’s a big kid at heart.

Oh Krittika. She was the first anchor to befriend me. This is probably just the first thing that popped into her head. Which is weird because she normally walks around with a skip in her step and a grin on her face.

Jim, he just became a proud new daddy not too long ago (hints the goldfish).

Julia, she’s crazy about sports.

Charlie, this might be the first and only picture that doesn’t give his good looks justice.

Mark, I haven’t worked with him enough to make an assumption but I’m intrigued. I can’t read his expression.

And last but not least Elizabeth, she’s a feisty one when it comes to talking about news she’s passionate about.

Okay so, I know I haven’t worked with these guys for long but this is what I read from this picture of the gang.

"My brain is a pancake right now.
Maybe five minutes after I walk in and situate myself to get ready for a successful day of blogging I hear from across the room, “35 days till’ Harry Potter!” in a overly excited tone from who we call the “den mother.” At least that’s what it says on her business cards, outsiders might just know her as Susan. Anyway, the teams carefree spirit and love for making even the most serious things, like news fun is yet another one of the things I love most about coming to work everyday.

"There’s a dead chicken outside the office.” - Aaron Bleich"

““There’s a dead chicken outside the office.” - Aaron Bleich”

I saw last night that Vogue has plus size models on the cover of...

I saw last night that Vogue has plus size models on the cover of this months magazine. And by plus size I mean healthy, burger eating, full figured women. I love that such a high fashion, respected magazine is changing the way they define beauty. It gave me hope that the world isn’t filled with billions of shallow people. Then, I walk into work today, turn to the One Minute News site and I see a segment done by Elyse about how your pant size affects your salary. This brings up the question; will the war in Iraq really come to an end as of December 31, 2011 as planned? These deaths will most definitely impact the decision to keep soldiers overseas longer than expected. When I hear stories like this it puts into perspective how much the soldiers are risking for the lives of Americans to simply go on with their daily routine safely. It is brave and admirable of these soldiers to put their life on the line. I just wish there were different circumstances at which we get to acknowledge their bravery.

I did my first paid editing job last week! My best friends mom, Mrs. Ray asked me to create a video about passion. She is speaking to a group of 2,000 people about how you need to be passionate in order to be leaders in the church community. It was really difficult to do what my client wanted and still make it visually appealing and powerful. I was talking to Josh, an editor at One Minute News the other day. He said that when people that don’t edit have a vision it’s more difficult to please them because although they have an idea he knows before he even begins editing if its going to look right or not. I was able to understand what he meant while working on this project. It’s important and takes skill to find the happy medium between doing what you want and satisfying your client. Mrs. Ray was really happy about the final cut and you know what, so was I. Anymore takers out there? I’m open for business!

Ever heard the saying, “you can’t teach an old dog...

Ever heard the saying, “you can’t teach an old dog tricks?” I’m sure you have but the question is; is the statement fact or fiction? The anticipation is killing you right? Well, it’s a myth. It may be true that kids learn a little faster than adults, but adults have the ability to process information rationally. Turns out there’s a lot more myths about the brain that you might not know. If you have ever overheard a conversation between either all men or all woman it’s quite obvious that on the surface we think differently. However, the opposite is true. Men and women are actually very much alike. Both genders are able to process emotions in the same way. So women, when you ask your boyfriend “what are you feeling right now” and he replies “I don’t know” uninterested, chances are he knows, he just can’t explain it.

I built something! James aka “Papa Tech” let me help assemble a…locker thingy ma-jig? Okay, truth is I’m not really sure what it is but it holds a computer and there were a lot of little screws involved. When I jumped at the opportunity to help him he looked a little confused as to why I had any interest in learning how to build a…thingy ma-jig. I want to take advantage of everything during my summer at One Minute News. College is great, but I’ve learned more here in a short three weeks than I would from any book. I’ve learned how to be responsible, take initiative, be creative, use heavy duty equipment, organize inventory, work with a team and most of all I’ve learned to embrace what people have to offer. I’m still love struck that I get to come to work everyday and go home knowing more than I did when I woke up. Thanks to James, I learned something new. What have you learned today?

This is what happens when I babysit this cool kid, Griffin....

This is what happens when I babysit this cool kid, Griffin.
