This is what happens when I babysit this cool kid, Griffin. He’s a one of a kind eleven year old who favors oldies tunes and is disgusted at the thought of rap being called music. We had a blast making this video all about him. The end was his favorite part. Enjoy!

Super excited, somebody pinch me! I wrote and filmed my very own news segment today. I’ve done it once before, but the difference this time is that it’s not tucked away in a file no where to be seen because Krittika put it on her blog! I learned so much today and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Flatter me and watch it!

Never a dull moment.
Krittika: Oh yeah guys, I totally believe there's "other" life out there.
Vanessa: Yeah, I mean why should we believe we're the only people on the planet?
Aaron: It is actually mathmatically proven that there is life on other planets. You can't say that the math is wrong.
Krittika: I bet there's people are out there right now just partying and livin' it up.
Vanessa: Ha Krittika! I love how you think another life we discover isn't going to help us cure cancer or anything, they're going to teach us how to be better partiers.
So there you have it, if the One Minute News team miraculously disappears, it was the aliens.

On cloud nine.
I literally just framed Elizabeth for her next segment on the deadly bombings happening in China. All. By. Myself. Plus, that’s not even the best part. She actually asked ME to do it. I am fully aware how lame I sound, but the thought that she had enough confidence that I could do it and came to me makes me first makes feel pretty darn good. They’re finally beginning to take me...

Leaving work at work is harder than it sounds.
At the dinner table growing up I always hated it when my mom would talk about work. I couldn’t understand why she couldn’t leave work at the office. I can hear the conversation now; “All you talk about is work, work, work. Hairstylists get to leave their work at work, why cant you, Mom?” A few years later I realized that keeping a business afloat is a little (okay, a lot)...

Casey Anthony trial exposed.
Kids can be a total handful, but there’s nothing better than watching a little one grow up. It’s devastating to know that Caylee Anthony’s family will never get to watch all the monumental parts of life that makes raising the little rascal worth all the chaos. Casey will never have a first kiss, shop for her prom dress or graduate from college. Casey Anthony took those...

System overload.
Whatever happened to riding your bike, climbing trees and playing capture the flag with your neighborhood buddies after school? Apparently those days are gone and being taken over by the Internet. Teens are spending more time than ever online. 1:25 teens are addicted to the Internet. On top of that it is affecting their mood and causing depression and aggressive behavior among the addicted...

News worth covering.
Well, I’m back at One Minute News on this Monday morning so I guess by now you should know the rapture didn’t happen. It’s time to start talking about some real news that’s worth covering. The natural disasters that have been sweeping our nation since April are devastating. Deadly weather and more tornadoes hit Missouri early this morning. 75% of the city is destroyed. I...
I hope this puts a smile on your face today!

I should probably work on my excessive use of “so”…
Behind the scenes.
The editors took me under their wing today and I learned how to use the camera. The behind the scenes part of broadcast is way cool and my favorite part, but why is it that the people behind the scenes never get the credit they deserve? The anchors are a really big part of the production; they’re the personality of the site but the editors put the show together. That’s kind of a big...

Would you want to know when you die?
When it comes time for me to drop dead I want it to just hit me so I never see it coming. I find more comfort in not knowing than I think I would if I knew when I was going to die. As for those of you out there that would find it amusing to know when your going to croak; there’s a new test to see how long you’ll live. Or estimate when your going to die. It’s all about how you...

We've got jokes.
So, the people at One Minute News have jokes and they’re actually pretty funny. They’re not hysterical or anything but between the witty banter and dry sense of humor that floats around I find myself laughing often. The popular thing around the office now is when Aaron yells across the room; “Hey, did you know that Prince Harry got married?” Michael will reply,...

No time for inconsistency.
I just don’t get it. How can I do nine blog posts one day and only manage to do one the next day? The anchors at One Minute News don’t have time to be inconsistent. Most of them do up to ten stories a day and on top of that they have a deadline to consider. It takes me about forty to fifty minutes to write one blog post. That’s too long. I asked around and figured on average that...

Arnold's a new baby daddy.
I wonder if the conversation between Arnold Schwarzenegger and the mother of his love child went more like “no problemo” or “hasta la vista, baby!” Either way the news is out that he is the father to a ten year old. That’s right, a ten year old, so Arnold’s dirty laundry has been kept in the closet for exactly a decade. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Anyway, I don’t think Arnold will be giving...

Shadowing the crew.
I shadowed Krittika Chatterjee today to see what it takes to be an Associate Producer here at One Minute News. I observed her as she had the process of editing stories mastered to a T. There was clicking, tagging, pasting and saving. There were tons of short cuts and steps involved. That sentence doesn’t give the task justice at all because I ensure you it is a very tedious task. I learned...

Pay what you want restaurant.
I like to think that when given the choice between doing the right or wrong thing people will choose to do the right thing and apparently so does Panera Bread. Numbers prove this to be true as well when it comes to the non-profit organization started in St. Louis at a “pay what you want” Panera Bread restaurant. Customers at this restaurant get to choose from the same menu as other...

I have been an abolitionist for Love146 since I first saw this video in 2009. You can make a difference today by educating yourself at www.love146.org. Better yet, donate! All the proceeds go towards the rehabilitation of the girls victimized by human trafficking. Every penny counts so lets help Love146 save the world one girl at a time.

Twitter heard it first.
Where do news stations get their breaking news? I’ve always known that the internet was a main source of information, but social media has made it to where if you have a twitter account you can be involved in breaking the top news stories. I’m sure you all have heard by now that the news of Bin Laden’s death was leaked out by Sohaib Athar who was tweeting what was happening...

Privacy online? Yeah right.
One thing people don’t take into account when they post things on Facebook is that there is no such thing as privacy in cyberspace. Julia Lopez covered a One Minute News segment about how divorce lawyers are taking Facebook to a whole new level and using it to stir up evidence of their clients spouses when infidelity is brought to the table. The fact that people are surprised when this kind...

My inventory experience.
I came into work the other day to do inventory on all the equipment One Minute News owns. It sounded like a nice little change from the usual blogging and tweeting duo I’m used to so I was eager to begin. I had never done inventory before and for those of you out there I don’t recommend it if you have anything less than 20/20 vision. I was on my hands and knees looking for serial...

Chaos, Silence, Repeat.
One Minute News is a 24 hour business because the news never sleeps! People are always coming into work at odd times so the office is almost always buzzing. The atmosphere is a lot of what makes One Minute News so exciting to come to work everyday. One second it can be a total zoo with people shouting across the room; “Vanessa how’s your 11 o’ clock looking?” “I...

My first day.
The first thing I saw when I stepped through the double doors of One MInute News was an anchor wearing curlers in her hair, zoned into her computer and rehearsing what I assumed would be the next segment on the One Minute News site. From that second on I knew I was in for a very entertaining summer. This made me smile and my nerves slowly chipped away as I was introduced to all the people that...
